Following A levels, James went on to study Economics and Business Management before proceeding to join the family law firm in Cheshire. After studying CILEx and spending 12 years in personal injury litigation James then decided to explore new horizons and made the step into legal recruitment at a prominent central Manchester based legal recruitment firm. Building on the connections that he has made in law over the years he was able to use his network and knowledge to recruit regionally across the UK from paralegal to partner level.
After seeing first-hand the gaps in the legal recruitment market and the value that could be added to the recruitment process, James set up Hugo James with the vision of creating a refreshingly personal agency focused on forming long lasting successful relationships with both candidates and clients.
James prides himself on understanding and working to ‘the brief’. He has a genuine desire to give guidance where required, ensuring that both candidates and clients receive a personal, tailored service which is paramount to securing that unique role or that star candidate. With this, James is confident in his ability to lead this new, young and vibrant agency.
Outside of work, when time allows, James can be found on the golf course. He is an avid follower of Newcastle United (for his sins) and enjoys relaxing at home with a good box set and a glass of red. James also loves to get away to Abersoch with the family as much as possible, where his kids keep him extremely busy!

Having always dreamt of becoming a lawyer from an early age, I embarked on obtaining qualifications that would lead to a career in Law. Finally, after many years of education and with great pride I was able to achieve an LLB (Hons) degree in law from Liverpool John Moores University in 2007.
A dream opportunity then arose at a leading law firm in Cheshire, specialising in my preferred practice area - personal injury which I was thankfully able to go on to secure. After working successfully within the personal injury litigation sector for the following 14 years, achieving my CILEx qualification along the way, I arrived at a point where I felt my career had plateaued and I wanted a new challenge. I needed a new focus, where my expertise would be useful in not only achieving my own career goals but also that of others.
My 14 year service within the legal sector has given me a wealth of legal knowledge and a sizable bank of connections at a range of law firms across the country including industry leaders. I therefore felt it would be a natural transition for me to move into recruitment.
This is where my new journey began, I decided to take a leap of faith and join my husband in the legal recruitment sector, helping candidates find their perfect roles and clients their star candidates whilst assisting with expansion plans for Hugo James along the way.
